The Nigeria Compassion Connectors have just received official approval from state authorities to launch a potentially transformative new project.
Led by Uwalaka Uchechukwu, Compassion Connectors Nigeria had applied to the Nigerian prison authorites for Abia State, in the south-east of the country, to run a Compassion Program in their prisons.
Last week, the team received news that their request has been approved.
This means Uwalaka and his fellow Connectors can now embark on their plan to support prisoners in Abia State to cultivate and feel compassion.
Ultimately they hope to reach 2000 prisoners – though their work will start with a maximum of 400.
Activities they intend to introduce into the prisons include:
- Education in compassion
- Football tournaments
- Organizing a choir
- Provision of hygiene products such as sanitary towels.
This inspirational project is a major testament to the commitment and organizational skill of Uwalaka and his team. We can’t wait to bring you updates as the project develops.
