This time of year can be a very tough one in South Sudan.
New crops only start to be grown in June which means that a first harvest can’t be expected until at least September.
This is combined with the intense heat in July and August. Temperatures routinely stretch over 40 degrees and there is simply no infrastructure to manage it.
That is why our Connectors in South Sudan have been helping out at the local schools.
Young people are especially vulnerable both to the intense heat and to undernourishment. So our Connectors have been assisting the local teachers by conducting lessons under the shade of trees, bringing biscuits along to ensure that the pupils get some much-needed energy.
The food they are providing has been kindly donated by members of the local community.
