Compassion Connectors Uganda Launch Central and Southern Chapter

On August 7, 2024, Compassion Connectors Uganda reached another significant milestone with the launch of its Central and Southern Chapter in Namuwongo, Kampala. This event marked the completion of CC Uganda’s regional chapter establishment across the country.

The day began with a training session led by Matt Hawkins, the Chief Operations Officer, and Peter Waiswa, the National Coordinator. Matt spoke passionately about GCC’s vision of fostering a compassionate community, detailing the organization’s mission and ongoing activities. His words resonated with the audience, highlighting the importance of compassion and respect for all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds.

Peter followed with an in-depth explanation of the Connector Program, clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the new Connectors. He outlined what the team could expect as they embarked on this journey, ensuring everyone had a clear understanding of GCC’s operations and objectives. The session was interactive, allowing connectors to engage in a lively Q&A, deepening their connection to GCC’s mission.

After the training, participants gathered for a lunch that offered a more informal setting to continue discussions and build relationships. This time of fellowship allowed the new Connectors to bond over shared goals and visions for the community.

The launch ceremony itself was a momentous occasion, drawing in local council leaders, religious figures, and other key community influencers. The Local Council Chairperson spoke highly of CC Uganda’s timely intervention in Namuwongo, expressing his belief that the initiative would bring much-needed positive change to the area. He committed to supporting CC Uganda’s efforts, which was a promising endorsement for the newly formed chapter.

Ms. Ritah, the newly appointed leader for the Central and Southern Chapter, expressed her gratitude and enthusiasm for the role. A dedicated social worker, she pledged her commitment to the growth of CC Uganda, calling on the connectors to play an active role in expanding the organization’s reach and impact.

Peter Waiswa, the National Coordinator, reinforced the significance of GCC’s mission in his address. He officially commissioned Ms. Ritah to lead the chapter and emphasized the need for a collective effort to ensure GCC’s success in the region.

In a heartening show of support, Mr. Sebaduka, one of the new Connectors, offered office space in one of his properties to facilitate the operations of the Central and Southern Chapter. His gesture was warmly received, reflecting the strong community spirit that GCC aims to nurture.

The launch concluded with a unanimous commitment from all participants to support GCC’s mission. The event was not just a formal ceremony; it was a powerful statement of collective will and determination to drive compassionate change in Namuwongo.

As the GCC Uganda team moves forward, they will focus on finalizing the renovation of the new office space and continuing to engage with local leaders and connectors to implement their programs. Regular monitoring and evaluation will ensure that the new chapter remains aligned with GCC’s objectives, fostering a future where compassion and support reach every corner of the community.

The successful launch in Namuwongo is a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared purpose. With the continued dedication of local leaders, connectors, and community members, the Central and Southern Chapter is set to make a lasting impact, driving forward GCC’s mission in Uganda.
