Cultivating workplace kindness

Compassion Connector Ogom Anagwu is expanding a culture of compassion and kindness at the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP).

Launched with an event on Valentine’s Day 2024, Ogom has invited her colleagues to come together, connect, and engage in conversations about the value of kindness.

Ogom had initially planned for the event to be a small gathering, but it quickly snowballed with over 100 members of staff joining her and others in posting their message of kindness on a whiteboard. This simply gesture was effective in helping people to reflect on why they want kindness in their lives and how the WFD can help to cultivate and champion it.

Ogom, who is a Partnership Officer at the WFD, reflected after the event on why she thought it had been so popular:

“Kindness is a human action that is born from a desire to show love. Kindness is simple, kindness is free, kindness is sweet, and it is contagious.”

And contagious is certainly the right word. As a result of Ogom’s actions senior staff at the WFD are interested in engaging with her on future initiatives to spread, embed, and champion the offices as a kind and compassionate place to work. Watch this space and a huge well done to Ogom!
