Across a single weekend, Burundi’s Connectors came together to not only plan how they can continue to spread compassion in their country but took the streets to put that planning into action.
National planning meeting
The gathering of Burundi Connectors took place in Bujumbura-Kamenge in the west of the country. All those present shared the work they are doing to bring compassion to their communities and reiterated the overall focuses in Burundi on helping older communities and orphans and on environmental protection.
On this topic, the group agreed to one additional new plan focused on neighborhood cleanliness. The Burundi Connectors agreed to create street teams in the cities and towns of Burundi’s who will organise street clean-ups. Meanwhile in the rural areas, the Connectors will continue their tree planting initiatives.
The meeting also noted that over 100 people have come forward in Burundi to be part of the volunteer projects run by the Connectors – a fantastic achievement. The team is now in the process of organizing their own Burundi Connector orientation sessions.
Taking action
As a clear example of the impact Burundi’s Connectors are making, the community organized for the distribution of essential items to older people in the community. Cornflour, beans, rice, and salt was taken round to help support some of the local older people who are unable to earn money or farm for their own food.
