At Christmas 2023, Global Compassion Malawi organized a meal for our community in Zomba.
In total 80 people were fed in an event designed to bring our neighbors and friends together to reflect on how they can make Zomba a place of great compassion and care.
We launched the initiative in Zomba in order to provide support and friendship to our older friends. Here many of them are completely isolated – partly because they cannot work and partly because, for some, long-standing cultural beliefs identity older people as being a curse. We are trying to promote a culture of care and inclusion – bringing younger members of our community to meet with and support older people.
So far we’ve created a network of 20 older people who are receiving weekly visits. Now after this event we hope that more people will be able to get involved in our work.
