We are encouraging our citizens in embracing the spirit of goodwill by engaging in World Neighbour Day celebrations across our municipality on June 1st.
The aim is to foster stronger community bonds and create lasting connections among our diverse neighbourhoods.
This event has been celebrated across the globe, on every continent for over 25 years. In Europe alone, 1400 cities and 30 million citizens participate every year. The USA has an equivalent National Good Neighbour Day.
It is a festive and unifying event, and the goal is to encourage everyone to gather, share food, share fellowship and welcome new neighbours.
Good neighbourly connections improve health outcomes, community safety and even school performance; these increase happiness, which has a direct impact on growing compassion.
Events can be big or small: a potluck dinner, community garden, street clean up, yard sale, cookie exchange, ice cream social, pizza party, basketball games at the park… There are a million ideas nourished by anyone’s creativity.
