The study explored the “Effectiveness of Compassion Therapy on Psychological Well-being and Feelings of Shame and Guilt in Underachieving Gifted Adolescents” and focuses on helping bright students who struggle with academic difficulties. Despite their intelligence, these students underperform, often leading to feelings of inadequacy and self-blame. The study explores whether compassion therapy, a specific therapeutic approach, can alleviate their emotional distress and reduce feelings of shame and guilt.
The importance of this study comes from the fact that these gifted students often face high expectations. They can induce intense pressure when they don’t meet these expectations, resulting in negative emotions such as shame and guilt. These feelings can make it even harder for them to do well in school. Using compassion therapy, researchers wanted to assess its potential to improve self-esteem and promote mental well-being among these students.
The study indicated that compassion therapy helped these Underachieving Gifted Adolescents to improve their emotional well-being, thereby enhancing their potential for success in both academic and personal life. The findings suggest that fostering self-compassion and understanding emotions can significantly transform the lives of gifted individuals navigating challenging circumstances.
