Masculinity
The Men’s Compassion Initiative (MCI) aims to influence individuals, organizations, communities, and nations to increase their compassion towards boys and men, while also helping boys and men increase their compassion towards others, including themselves. MCI is fueled by the energy of men and women who see the need and urgency to help men accept and embrace a more compassion-informed outlook toward life.
We recognize that men are naturally nurturing and compassionate. However, societal messages about masculinity from a variety of cultures and backgrounds can influence some men to act in ways that increase loneliness, isolation, depression, anxiety, substance use, relationship issues, and aggression. We seek to address these underlying causes, conditions, and contexts in ways that help reduce the suffering of men conforming to rigid masculine gender roles. Some of these ways include research, clinical interventions, education, and public awareness campaigns.
