On Saturday 21 September South Sudan’s Connectors successfully launched a new regional chapter in the Western Bhar el Gazal State.
26 members of the local community, including students, professionals, religions leaders, and community organizers joined the event which focused on cultivating skills to live with compassion in daily life. The event also offered the chance for the community to come together and develop project ideas to help more compassion throughout the state.
The keynote speaker for the event was James Akoon Akot, National Coordinator for Connectors in South Sudan. James talked about the importance of kindness and understanding in today’s divided world, encouraging attendees to practice compassion in all aspects of their lives.
Participants at the event expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about compassion and share their own experiences with empathy. Several group presentations were made during the launch, highlighting different ways in which compassion can be integrated into daily life.
Attendees also shared their personal testimonies of how practicing compassion has made a positive impact on their lives and relationships. Many participants spoke about how small acts of kindness had a significant ripple effect, leading to greater connections with others and a sense of fulfillment.
As a result of the launch, several recommendations were made for future events and initiatives focused on compassion. These included creating a community service project to spread kindness in the local area, organizing workshops and seminars on empathy, and starting a compassion club to continue the conversation on compassion and empathy.
