The 16th of July 2024 marked a significant day for the Global Compassion Coalition (GCC) in Uganda with the launch of its Northern Uganda chapter.
The day began with a training session led by Matt Hawkins, the Chief Operations Officer of GCC, who delivered a keynote address explaining the organization’s mission and operational principles. He expressed his delight at the decision of the people of Northern Uganda to become connectors, emphasizing the potential for positive change if GCC’s objectives are met. Matt also acknowledged Peter Waiswa, the National Coordinator of GCC Uganda, for his pivotal role in expanding GCC’s reach across Uganda and for organizing the day’s events.
Peter himself facilitated part of the training, advocating strongly for compassion and outlining the roles and responsibilities of connectors within the organization. He shared success stories from other Connectors, inspiring the newly trained individuals to initiate compassionate change in their communities. Peter introduced Pastor Patrick Alebo as the lead connector for Northern Uganda, encouraging collaboration to foster a compassionate environment across the region.
Following the training, the participants proceeded with the official launch of the GCC Northern Uganda chapter, a celebratory event marked by traditional dances and songs symbolizing hope and unity. Notable attendees included local government officials, educationists, political leaders, and community opinion leaders, underscoring the broad support for GCC’s initiatives.
The launch of the Northern Uganda chapter signifies a significant expansion for GCC, now encompassing three regional chapters across Uganda. Activities at the launch included the ceremonial cutting of a cake and a communal lunch, fostering a sense of community among attendees. Participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to GCC’s global mission of promoting compassionate change.
The location of the launch will serve as the temporary headquarters for GCC activities in Northern Uganda, with Pastor Patrick Alebo coordinating efforts from there. Projects have already begun under the Northern Uganda chapter, including a school aimed at supporting underprivileged children, highlighting GCC’s commitment to impactful community initiatives.
