Although the school attendance and completion rate in Malawi is increasing, still around 15% of primary aged children and 75% of secondary age children do not go to school.
This is usually caused by poverty. The need to pay school fees and supply their own materials can be prohibitive and the need for older children to work for the family instead of attending school explains the huge rate of non-attendance for that age group.
That is why it is so important the community step in to help all children attend school.
Many of the Malawi Connectors have been doing this work – organizing and pooling resources to help pay the school fees of children in their community and to share resources like books and pencils.
Wonderful work Compassion Connectors Malawi.
